Call for Entries
International Semmelweis–Richter Journalism Award 2026

Journalists working in Europe are invited to submit their work in the following two categories:

  • Women’s Health
  • Pharmaceutical Strategies and Innovation, with a special focus on cardiovascular therapies

Application period:
April 1, 2026 – June 9, 2026

What We’re Looking For

Journalistic work that:

  • highlights important or underreported health issues,
  • addresses stigmatized diseases,
  • promotes open and informed public dialogue,
  • and/or contributes to better understanding and improved treatments.

Eligibility & Submission Guidelines

  • Each applicant may submit up to two entries (one per category).
  • Eligible works must have been published between March 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026.
  • Submissions may be published in print or digital media.
    • Print: scanned copy
    • Online: public link
    • Paywalled content: screenshot
  • Entries must be submitted in English or include an English translation (the original language version must also be provided).

Jury

Submissions will be reviewed by an international jury of experts in journalism, medicine, and public health, including representatives from Semmelweis University, Gedeon Richter Plc., and leading European journalism organizations.

Entries will be evaluated based on:

  • journalistic quality,
  • depth of reporting,
  • impact and relevance,
  • originality,
  • clarity and accessibility.

Awards

  • Total prize fund: €45,000
  • Per category:
    • First prize: €10,000
    • Second prize: €7,500
    • Third prize: €5,000

All six winners will be invited to the award ceremony in October 2026 at Semmelweis University in Budapest, Hungary, with all travel and accommodation expenses fully covered.
